This year Armstrong is celebrating its 50th anniversary in California. As a multi-generational family business, we deeply appreciate the values and hard-won knowledge we've inherited. In 1966, after a decade of operating successfully, Howard made the decision to move Armstrong to California. Looking back over the last 50 years, we acknowledge Howard's legacy and the company he built. Everybody was very polite and prompt in their responses; Also, questions were answered without hand-offs, even if someone else had the actual answer.

At around this time lat year after much research I opted for Armstrong's foam roof to replace my asphalt/gravel. Before the work they recommended a company that took care of the overhang, removed dry rot etc. All the work began on time was completed very professionally, it also looked really great! I was told that the foam roof had insulating properties and this interested me both for heating loss but also to keep the house cool.
I waited to report the outcome waiting to experience both cold and hot weather and I have to say I am so very satisfied. We have had unprecedented hot weather and my house is significantly cool, even the room upstairs that I thought I would have to put in A/C. In fact no A/C is needed. During the winter, my heating bill was also lower thanks to insulation provided by the foam roof. I highly recommend both the company and the product very highly!

One star because they returned my call and another because they returned my call. This company ONLY DOES FOAM ROOFING. I have never heard of a roofing company who only does one type of roofing. Please don't waste your time calling if you have another type of roofing. Armstrong.please change your name to Armstrong FOAM Roofing Company.

Armstrong did a foam roof in Berkeley at our house in 2016 and it has not held up. For anyone considering them, look elsewhere. Their customer service is very difficult to reach, and their installation crew is inexperienced and does not have good problem solving skills for even typical details. Our house had two windows at the roof line of a split level.
The installers left a negative grade in the sill flashing where it met the roof, leaving water to pool, rot and infiltrate the window sills, coming down through the wall and destroying the ceiling. This was obvious with a level and some common sense. I can understand a big company having to rely on inexperienced labor, but then they wouldn't stand by their work.
The first time they sent someone they sent the "real experienced guy" who said everything was totally fine and tried to pitch us on a recoat. Why would we need a recoat after 5 years? Then they sent a salesperson who said there was no way Armstrong could have put the flashing there. That despite the fact HE DIDN'T BRING A LADDER or even look at the flashing.
This company is too big, doesn't care about the individual customer, and was so quick to shed responsibility. Armstrong are not quality contractors. The foam roof can be a nice solution for flat roof situations with tight attic spaces and the benefit of insulation on an older house, but there are smaller companies that have longer-retained staff and more conscientious owners. Avoid these guys at all costs.

We recently re-roofed our house by Armstrong and I have to say it's a disappointment. The salesperson, Jorge De Quesada, came and gave us a quote and then "kindly" offered a discount of $500 but asked us to undertake the permit fee. He said, "it's going to be around $200." No, it wasn't. It cost $1,099.19 by the invoice. So basically I'm paying more for the service, not even to mention being lied to my face. Also, in the beginning, Jorge said the estimated start date was the final week of October. However, in reality, they started work on November 15th.
And that's a "favor" to us since someone before us canceled the service. Otherwise, it would be early December. During the waiting, I called them multiple times to check on the progress, but none of them would be anything near helpful. They're pretty good at giving you different phone numbers with nobody to answer. Well, to be honest, the job looks not bad.
But I could only beg it not to leak since I don't have any hope about the effectiveness of their customer service at all. -- Updates: The CEO of the company called to apologize and resolve all the issues. He promised on the work quality and agree to make improvements on the customer service. I must say he's very sincere from the phone and I do feel the gesture. Adjust the review to 4 stars since the work quality is pretty solid.

Our building did a fair amount of research on replacing our flat tar and gravel roof and decided on a foam roof for both the insulation properties and the value (if it in fact lasts as long as they say it will!) I spoke with Scott at Armstrong, and after researching on Nextdoor, feel confident they are probably the best place in the bay area to get your foam roof installed.
They offer a 15 year warranty, though Scott felt confident that given the conditions of our building, we would likely get 25 years before we needed to do any resurfacing. Armstrong in particular adds a special hard coating on top of the foam roof that keeps birds from pecking at it (a problem with early foam roofs) and results in this longevity. They quoted 3 days from start to finish, and that is exactly what it took them.
The crew led by Martin was very professional, showed up on time, cleaned up after themselves. Excellent service. Assuming the roof is as good as they say, and I am feeling optimistic considering the research we've done, I give high marks to Armstrong!

Adjusting my feedback due to positive outreach from CEO. Original: Mixed feedback, good work (so far) by the crew when they showed up. A promised 3 day job turned into more than 2 months for a range of reasons. Hard working crew, but undermined by the negative experience. Better under promise and over deliver.

After all these years I am still satisfied with the roof they put on my house. Their product is the most comfortable roof I have had. My place stays cooler in the summer and warmer in the winter. I had one small problem with my roof and they were out here and fixed it quickly. If I ever need a new roof it would be from these people. My roof looks as good as the day they installed it.

In 2017 we had the spray foam roof installed on our flat garage top. It has proven to been one of the best investments we've made. Sure, it's a roof, but our garage is our workshop, kids play room, storage space, general hang out spot. The insulation it provides both in the winter AND the summer months is amazing. Armstrong did a fantastic job, worked with our busy schedules, and most importantly - KEPT THE JOB SITE CLEAN. Kudos to Armstrong, its now 2019 and the roof is still in tiptop shape.

Excellent foam roofing system for my 60 year old 3/12 low pitch roof in the north bay area of California. It's been holding up over the past 4 years without effort at all by me but as a real estate developer and construction manager I of course check it out every 4 months or so and it is still holding strong. Thank you

After numerous attempts of DIY roof patches over the years we caved in & called the professionals. Armstrong fixed our flat garage roof (I'm talking years ago). Finally no leaks. It has held up extremely well. Loved their work. Fast forward to today. A neighbors tree fell down and put a huge dent on the eave of the garage roof. Ugh! Called Armstrong and they scheduled a day to come look at the damage.
They arrived as promised and fixed the eave on the spot. No delays. I now don't have to worry that their previous work was compromised. They fixed it! So happy with Armstrong!

Wow, you've all heard their commercials and believe it they live up to it. We have a flat roof home purchased back in 1988, when we had the roof replaced the first thing we noticed was how much cooler it as in the summer and then our lower heating cost in the winter. The installers did a fantastic job, removed the old roof one day and finished the next, fifteen years later we had the roof resealed and it's even better as they resealed the top roof with gloss white coating but suggested using a beige color to keep the glair down from the second floor windows.as I said they know their stuff. A true believer, Pat A Cupertino, Ca.

I just wanted to share my experience with this company. I had a gentleman by the name of George come out to my home in Orinda. He was very thorough when explaining my options to hopefully cut down my sky high PG&E bill. He suggested that I get foam roofing. The installation process went as well as it could go. I had the foam roofing done back in March and have noticed a HUGE improvement when it comes to energy savings. I'm happy with my investment in my home through this companies assistance.

Armstrong painters. A colossal disappointment! Wanted to have my home painted and received 10 estimates from various contractors. Contacted Armstrong who sent their representative and after negotiations signed a written contract and wrote a deposit check for work to commence. Price was $2500.00 higher than the lowest bid and $1500.00 higher from the highest bid. ( chose Armstrong's because of their guarantee) Shortly thereafter the representative from Armstrong called and related to me that he would be fired from his job, if in fact I held Armstrong to the signed contract.
I acquiesced and cancelled the work as I did not want the representative fired even though I had a signed contract to paint my home. Is this the way for a company who has been in business for so many years to behave?

I was very satisfied with the overall installation of our windows. However, I have a problem with a window that Armstrong said had a lifetime warranty. The window sags and doesn't close properly. I called Armstrong and was told that the window was not available anymore and sorry nothing could be done. Case closed. So much for that "lifetime warranty".
Not too happy about the br Just as a recap from my last review. I was contacted by Armstrong and several efforts were made to rectify my situation. However, it would have cost me over $2,000 to have the two windows replaced as it was a matching window another one in a bedroom. To just get one replaced would not work or look good. I am weighing my options.

I just had a new roof installed last year, on my rental property in San Francisco, because I could never get my old roof to stop leaking. Armstrong put on a new roof and I am happy to say, that it survived the torrential downpours of the last month, without incident. Everything in the building is as dry as could be! No more leaks! I can't say enough about how happy I am with Armstrong, their Foreman Eliseo, and the work they did.

Significant amounts of water are pooling on my flat Eichler garage roof after heavy rain. After Armstrong re-roofed, they did not check the gradient of the drainage and their poor workmanship has not become evident until heavy rains in December. I have now called "Dorina" and left voicemails 4 times with no response.

I have an experience with Armstrong that can only be described as a bait & switch. I'll write this review to map to each stage of my experience with them as a customer: They canvassed my neighborhood looking for business, I spoke to them about replacing my large two front windows, and after an enthusiastic conversation, they responded to tell me that the job would be too small for them to take on.
I asked them to reconsider, they pressured me to replace other windows which were in good shape and did not need replacing. We settled on the two window job and I waited two weeks for appointment for an on-site assessment to get the process going. A sales rep came by, I told him my budget, he showed me the product, and he told me he'd get me an offer in the next few days.
He returned a week later, wanted to meet in person rather than giving me the offer on the phone, and presented me with an offer that was over my budget. I reminded him what my budget was, and he knocked of 15% to get me to my comfortable price range, we signed a thorough contract, and I gave him a deposit check. I was assured that the overall cost would include the window manufacturing, labor, and taxes. 48hrs later, I get a call from his manager saying that the sales associate gave me a quote that didn't include labor and that he needed to charge me an extra $4K.
I reminded him that I had a signed contract with them, and that I was assured my price included things like labor. I then spoke to his boss, who told me that it wasn't just the labor, it was also 'materials' for the job, and that we needed to sign a new contract. I told him this was unacceptable, that I had a signed contract with them, and that the quote they had given me was already quite a lot for a two window job.
He said they have they authority to cancel any agreement that they have within a three day period. He offered to 'work with me' on the new $4K that I now had to owe them, or he wanted me to "take my wife out for a great dinner and to send him the bill" for the trouble he caused us. I told him I didn't need this, I wanted them to honor our original contract or tear up my deposit check immediately.
As a homeowner, I don't have time for flakey contractors or service providers who misrepresent what they can deliver with unreliable staff. I sunk about 4 weeks of time trying to get to this point to get the job started, and now I'm back to square one. Take caution when engaging them due to their questionable sales tactics and bait and switch tactics.

Worst experience I've had recently regarding home repair. We have an Eichler home in San Mateo that needed repairs. I called and left many messages with Anderson since we hear them on the radio all the time, figured they were the best. I finally spoke to someone in a call center who said they would send out an estimator. The estimator showed up with NO LADDER and asked to borrow ours.
He climbed to the top of the ladder and surveyed the roof but NEVER ACTUALLY GOT ON THE ROOF! He climbed down and gave us a $25000 estimate and told us they could do it next spring. From his vantage point, there's no way he could see the other part of the roof that was heavily damaged nor could he see the top of the second floor addition so I knew darn well that quote was going to double when the workers actually made it on the roof.
He pressured us to sign an contract right away and we declined as I was going to shop around. If this is indicative of their actual work, I am glad we chose another company, American Foam Experts who properly appraised our roof in one day and we had a new roof complete and done within a month. I would not recommend Anderson at all and you'd be wise to do a LOT of research before you choose a roofer.
