I have used American Home Renewal twice, and both experiences were phenomenal. I got estimates from three different companies and went with American Home Renewal. Their pricing is fair, and their products are of good quality. Crews were professional, on-time, and did a stellar job with cleanup. The windows look great, and the drafts are gone.

I ordered a large sliding door for my large studio shed. Keith was very helpful, prompt and responsive to my questions. The price is comparable to others, but his service and professionalism really stood out. He called the shed company to make sure the specs are compatible. I was way overly optimistic about the timeline of my project. It took 1 year for us to be ready for the door installation. Amazingly Keith kept up with multiple delays and schedule changes for over a year. With attention like this, it give me a lot of confidence in their company.

Read if sound reduction is important to you We have a home by a busy street with a constant stream of traffic, and decided to replace our windows for an improved sound reduction. After meeting with multiple installers, we decided to work with American Home Renewal. The sales rep appeared very knowledgable, and friendly. During our initial assessment, I've expressed my #1 concern is noise, and that I was willing to choose a higher quality sound reduction window such as the Milgard Quiet Series.
The rep explained that if we install the Weather Shield standard double pane, we will be just fine. He even shared that they installed a home within our block. Based on his experience, and company reputation, I fully trusted them to make the right recommendations. That was where I made a mistake. After we installed the double pane windows and patio doors at the price of $31k, the sound reduction was no better than the ones I had before.
I expressed my frustration, and the rep mentioned that it's odd and that he never had this issue before. He recommended upgrading our window glass to the Zo-e-shield 6, which is a laminated glass. He stated that this absolutely should do the trick. "It would sound like a tomb in here" After we installed the upgrade, same issue is persisting. The same humming of every single car is coming through.
To be clear, we had our walls re-insulated for sound reduction before the windows, so the sound emulation is clearly coming from the windows. The rep said he was baffled, and that we may have faulty windows from Weather Shield. He invited the WS rep to inspect. Both the sales rep and window rep agreed that the sound reduction is not what they expected, and that they will research if I got the right windows. 3 days later, I was the told the windows was built to their standard, and that no further action could be provided.
The sales rep offered an apology and that he wished me luck in solving this issue. Welp, I'm down $38k, got windows that performed the same as my previous windows, and an apology for poor recommendation. I did not expect them to be sound experts, but they should have given me the highest quality sound option available. Do not trust their guarantee of "Satisfaction First." Do not trust their expertise. Do not trust Weather Shield products.

Poor Neighbor Relations. My neighbor hired American Home Renewal to replace siding on her home. They needed access to the side of the home on my property, and I gave her permission to have the work done. On day one, I came home for lunch to find the crew's truck in my driveway. I rolled down my window and asked them if I could park in my driveway, and after hesitating they moved the truck.
The crew decided they were going to do prep work on my property, without my permission. I let it slide, since most of the siding work was on my side. After 2 more days the work on the side was completed, but scaffolding was left up. Next day I came home about 9am for something and they were still on my property. When I asked them to move, they begged me to give them 30 more minutes so they didn't have to move their setup.
I asked what they were going to do for me, and got no reply, just more begging. I reluctantly agreed, and left for work. When I came home at noon, they were still on my property, but moving off. 30 minutes later I heard my water running. I stepped outside and asked if they were using my water. Yes, to clean brushes. I told them to stop, that I was not their customer, and they didn't ask to use my water. Finally they left, and I spent 3 hours of my weekend cleaning all the dust they left behind!

Very Professional, Quality Work at a Fair Price Project date: June 2017. Date of this review: November 2017. Scope of work: We have a 5 bedroom home in Mill Valley which needed all of its siding replaced (7,000 sq ft), along with 15 windows and 3 patio doors. It is also on a steep slope with lots of vegetation and 4 stories on the downhill side. We had already decided to go with Hardieplank for the siding and Milgard for the windows/doors.
We interviewed 3 general purpose contractors and 4 specialized window/door contractors. We learned about AHR from Diamond Certified, and we met with co-owner Chris. AHR was by far the most professional, most experienced and best organized of all the contractors. We received their bid just 4 hours after meeting with us compared to other contractors who took several days or weeks to think through the project.
They were also far more detailed in how they would do the project. Even though Hardieplank does not seem complicated to install, we became convinced that it would be beneficial to use a firm specialized in it, and we didn't need the versatility of a general purpose contractor. AHR has several window/door crews and several siding crews. Our window/door crew had 2-4 people run by Andrew and took 2 weeks for the installation.
After the first week the siding crew of 4-8 people run by Alex began their work. Each crew had good camaraderie and we enjoyed working with each of them. Progress was steady and consistent with no interruptions. They cleaned up at the end of every day. There were no problems with neighbors. The total job was estimated to take 5 weeks; it actually took 6 weeks. Chris came by once or twice a week to check on the project and meet with us.
There was never a time when we had to have any uncomfortable discussion about anything. If you've hired contractors before, you know that's very rare. Any problems that came up were ones AHR had seen before and knew how to solve. They had all of the latest specialized tools and were current with the manufacturers' best practices. They used trim tabs to eliminate ugly face nails on the exterior trim, despite their adding $1,000 in cost to AHR.
They used James Hardie (JH) products throughout: JH trim instead of cedar; JH house wrap instead of "the other brand", and JH caulk color matched to the siding. JH works with Sherwin Williams to provide paint that is officially color matched to the siding. Also, it was comforting to know that AHR works closely with James Hardie and Milgard in case there were a warranty issue.
We are very picky about workmanship; theirs was consistently high. At the end of the project we did have a "punch list" to address, which they did. There were a few pleasant surprises: * The "extras" were negligible. * Our old windows had sheetrock wrap on the inside. AHR's installation includes replacing it with wood molding of our choice: jamb, casing, sill and skirt, all mitered, puttied and caulked, ready for our painter. * A couple downspouts broke during the tear-off, so AHR replaced all of them. Unfortunately, there wasn't a color match available, so we painted them before they were installed. * We made a last minute decision to install 3 louvered attic gable vents. AHR had them installed and integrated with the siding in under an hour.
All of the other contractors we interviewed use scaffolding installed by scaffolding companies that would have added over $10k to the cost. AHR uses their own pump jacks instead. We were uneasy about their use until we spoke to their insurance agency and learned that AHR's safety record was extraordinarily good. Their use did require penetrating our composition shingle roof with screws, which they repaired afterwards. In summary, we were very happy with their work, the price was very fair, and we have already referred friends. Steve and Marjie Shank Mill Valley, CA

American Home Renewal did a fantastic job on our siding replacement and window addition project at a very reasonable price and were a conscientious, pleasant, straight-forward team to work with. Context: Our 3-story building has two condo units. We needed to replace an entire exterior wall's plywood siding that had significant dry rot and repair any rot that had reached the framing.
While we were at it, we wanted to add four additional windows to that wall. Chris at AHR was very helpful and knowledgeable talking through recommendations with us, which included replacing our old plywood with lower-maintenance engineered HardieBoard siding. I am very detail oriented and ask many questions. He was never dismissive of our questions, and treated my co-owner and I (both women) with respect.
His bid was both well-priced (comparable to bids for plywood siding not HardieBoard) and very comprehensive, including a detailed list of all material and services that were included in the project. He was always very responsive, replying to emails and calls within a day, both before and after we signed the contract. AHR has crews devoted to different work, e.g. siding, windows & doors.
So our project was done in two parts: Team 1, headed by Andrew, first removed the old siding, did framing and structural work for the new windows, and installed the windows; Team 2 installed the new insulation, vapor barrier, plywood siding, and external siding (HardieBoard). Andrew, who headed Team 1, was exceedingly conscientious. He talked through choices as they came up, such as what parts of the framing had rot and needed to be replaced.
In all cases, we talked through different options, and their cost differences. I felt we were able to make informed decisions about every aspect of the project without delaying progress. His team was also very respectful when they needed to do work from inside our home, covering everything with tarps, helping with furniture moving, and giving us advance notice of when they would need access.
Team 2, who specializes in siding, worked like an amazing team of acrobats. I was amazed by how quickly they did their work, up and down the 3-story wall, and the very high quality of finish. This team's specializing on siding clearly pays off in its efficiency and quality. Both teams coordinated necessary inspections and left the work site tidy and well protected from the elements (this was in January) every day.
My one negative of the experience is that our project start was delayed several months. This was primarily due to our building plans not being finalized by the initial start date AHR had assigned us due to open questions with the engineer (not AHR). After those were sorted out, we had to wait a few months for AHR to have another time slot for us. It was disappointing, but understandable given the high demand and low supply for construction services in the Bay Area right now. This was by far my best experience of several projects hiring contractors, tradesmen, or handypeople for home improvement work.

I'm very happy with the siding project and replacement windows and doors from American Home Renewal. They provided the service and support of a large professional organization, with the personal commitment and integrity of a small family run business. The foreman (Alex) who was on this project every day until completion is a master craftsman. The door and window group (a separate division), were also exceptionally talented. I give this company my fullest recommendation.

Honesty and actual properly informing was the first impressions made by the estimator when he came to our house. And as someone that grew up in a family that reinvented our own home, I was listening and looking for what was going to be overlooked. Everything was covered. And so we agreed instantly to have gutters installed (seamless). And that part was also an amazing experience. Prompt, Communicative, Attentive, Fast. It was all a great experience.

Our experience with American Home Renewal was outstanding in every way. We had American Home Renewal install Hardie Siding, a new front door, one new window and trim around several windows. The professionalism from the beginning, the constant communication, the quality workmanship, the speed of the project, the cleanliness and the follow through was all beyond our expectations.
The final project was better than we could have hoped for and we have since received several comments and compliments that our house looks brand new. Having a background in architecture, I am meticulous when it comes to details and perfection and this job was perfect. We would highly recommend American Home Renewal to anyone and everyone and we would use them again and again.

We purchased our new home in 1997 and after 15 years the siding was falling apart on the front of the house. The rest was stucco and in 'fair' shape. It was time to replace the siding and James Hardie siding was the way to go. Through their site I located 4 contractors and requested bids from all 4 last June. The first to respond was American Home Renewal (AHR).
Within a couple of days an appointment was set. The others did eventually set-up appointments too. From the first meeting, I had a very confident feeling in working with their salesman. He spent several hours with us and covered all of our questions in detail. Because of this I asked him to quote the front siding as one project and the entire house as a second 'BIG' project.
This was the 'dream' quote since it would be a huge project on our 4000 sq. ft. home. He gave us 'ballpark' quotes before he left and delivered two formal quotes the next day. I hate to admit it but even before he left we had decided that AHR would be our choice. They have tremendous past experience, great reviews, loads of photos of completed projects and seemed very professional and yes, very trustworthy. However, I felt we needed to go forward with getting the other three bids just to insure that AHR was not 'too good to be true'; a reality check.
The other 3 companies eventually gave us bids but they did not seem as professional or proficient as AHR. Price-wise AHR was in the middle, another good sign. In mid-July the salesman came back to Petaluma with the project manager to walk the job a second time and answer any lingering questions. We spent a couple of hours finalizing the job details.
We told them we would decide by the end of July. We decided to do the BIG project and put Hardie siding on the entire house. The demolition was estimated to take several weeks to completely strip the house of the stucco and siding; the start date was August 27th. On day one the crew arrived, a dumpster was delivered and other 'support' items were delivered over the next couple of days.
Without going into detail, the demolition was a massive project. Once it was done and the siding started to go up everything moved quickly and efficiently. Several small items came up that were uncovered when the demo was underway and the crew dealt with them in-stride and without complaint. I've attached some photos that show the post demo and final product.
The project completed October 10th, on-time, on budget, no requests for change orders, no extra costs and no problems. I don't think there are words to describe how messy the demo was with the stucco. Every single day, before the crew left, they cleaned up the site so we could continue to use our yard and back patio and 'live' amidst this massive construction project. Speaking of the crew, there were exceptional.
They worked like machines! They were polite, pleasant and very professional, paying attention to every detail. They also were in contact with us if they came across anything that was unusual. I guess this describes everyone we came in contact with at AHR. From the start AHR was a dream to work with. They were always in contact with us as we progressed through each project phase.
The office staff kept us informed of any scheduling changes, the delivery and removal of dumpsters, etc. and the salesman made a half-dozen trips up here to check in and check on the progress. He also was in constant contact via email and phone. The house looks fabulous! We are absolutely satisfied with the end result. The neighbors have been complimenting us on the 'new' house and one even 'Thanked' us for such a great looking property in the neighborhood.
If you are going to undertake any type of home remodel that is in the American Home Renewal portfolio, you have to do yourself a favor and have them bid the job. Based on what we experienced (and saw happen at another home siding project in our neighborhood) AHR is clearly the top company in the bay area for James Hardie siding.

When we needed replacement windows on our 1920's home, AHR was able to meet our needs in a professional, timely and reasonable manner. From the bid process to the clean-up after the job (this was one of my favorite parts as they left our home/yard cleaner than when they came), we were thrilled with the process. I can highly recommend this local bay-area company to anyone wanting a quality product and professional, courteous service.
