Storm windows in California? Who would have thought? Actually, when you think about it, California has just about every type of weather condition known to mankind. So why do you need storm windows in California? Turns out, California is just about the best place for every need and benefit that storm windows have to offer.
Window insulation is your best bet for staying comfortable this winter. Not only will you be able to stay warmer, you'll also spend a lot less on your energy costs and heating bills this winter. Castle Window Covers seal the temperature inside by insulating your windows. Best of all, they cost half as much as replacement windows and you won't need to replace your windows at all.
Relax this winter! Castle Window Covers will keep you warm and comfortable all while saving money on your heating bills. Staying warm in the winter can be tough, even in the "comfort" of your own home. Another element of winter that can make you uncomfortable is your monthly heating bill when you run your heater all winter long.
During the winter months, there's a beautiful winter wonderland out there. But if your windows are all fogged up - covered in condensation - you're missing out on the beautiful scenery. Even if there's no great view out your window, the moisture from the condensation usually brings with it a bunch of ugly and unhealthy mold that ends up on your window sill.

Ken provided excellent service with a really great product. My room is facing an extremely loud street with Muni and lots of street noise outside. These window covers blocked way more of the noise than I was expecting- easily 60-70%. They are fairly easily detachable when I wish to open the windows. The installation was also quite pain-free. My one complaint is that the magnet is not very strong, so on windy days, which happen frequently in SF, there is often a rattling noise from the window covers partially detaching and reattaching. Other than this, I am very satisfied with the product!

This company and their product transformed our home. We purchased our home 2.5 years ago after falling in love with the general location, quality of construction, and attention to detail. The home was smaller than we would have liked, and on a busier street than we preferred, but the seller spared no expense in it's construction. With his primary objective being to maintain the original look and feel of the house, the seller/builder ultimately decided to install double hung, dual pane Marvin windows throughout.
In doing so, he was successful in maintaining the charm of the original home (built in 1926), but he overlooked the insulation quality of the double hung windows, which is notoriously poor. Due to the noise generated by our busy street, coupled with the poor insulation quality of the double hung windows, we were beginning to wonder if buying the home was a mistake. Additionally, replacing the existing (expensive and fairly new) windows with a more efficient design/product would have cost tens of thousands of dollars.
After doing some research, we came across Castle Window Coverings and, to be honest, we were skeptical. Kenn and Dennis traveled from Stockton to our home in San Jose to give us a free estimate and explain the benefits of their product. Growing excited with the prospect of increasing the insulation quality of our windows, we decided to proceed with coverings for our entire second floor, but we remained skeptical.
On the day of installation, the merits of their product were immediately evident. I would estimate their product cut down the traffic/airport noise entering our upstairs bedrooms by 50%. We were blown away, and the product is virtually invisible. Fast forward 18 months, and we decided to pull the trigger to have them install the same window coverings on half of the windows throughout our first floor, focusing primarily on the living, family, and dining rooms.
To be honest, I was even more impressed with the second round of window coverings, because they were just as effective as the first installation, and these were now coverings in windows where we spend most of our time. Again, they're that good! Side note: upon their crew leaving after the second install, I noticed a sizeable scratch in the acrylic in one of the window coverings.
I called Kenn and informed him of my findings. He assured me that they would take care of the scratch, even if that meant replacing the whole window cover. Within 24 hours, they were back at my house in San Jose (from Stockton!) to buff out the scratch, which was successful. If you are experiencing similar issues with your windows, give these guys a call.
This product is truly remarkable, and their customer service, professionalism, and care in your home are just as impressive. If I could give more than 5 stars, I would. Thanks Kenn and Dennis!

We live on a busy street in San Francisco. We moved into a early 1900s building and recently replaced all of our windows with the double-paned ones with a sound package upgrade (windows were old and needed to be replaced - but was most excited about new windows solving the traffic noise). Thanks to SF laws/regulations, many many months and a hefty price tag later.we had new windows but still hear the traffic most of the day and night.
A couple of years ago my neighbor recommended Castle Windows as she had done a ton of research, priced out competitors, etc. and was impressed with the results. I spoke to and price-compared some competitors but felt like choosing Castle was a no-brainer given all of the positive feedback and it was a CA company to boot. Kenn & Denis came to measure my windows and only a couple of weeks later - I've got window covers that you barely notice are there and the traffic noise is significant reduced. I highly recommend this company - quality products that really work and look great.

I highly recommend Castle Window Covers. I live in a 1928 flat in San Francisco, with beautiful street-facing windows. However, the windows are leaky (visible air gaps) and do nothing to reduce noise on my busy street. I looked into having the windows reproduced, and was quoted $20K, not including the city permit. Additionally, the windows would need to be removed and boarded up while the reproduction work was in process. Instead, I went with Castle Window Covers at a fraction of the cost of replacement.
The window covers are virtually invisible, and have drastically improved energy efficiency and noise reduction in my front room. In addition, Kenn and Dennis were great to work with, responsive and speedy. The window covers are a terrific solution!

I live next to the caltrain station and the noise from the trains were unbearable. As soon as I realized what a bad move I'd made I started looking for solutions. I'm glad I found Caste Window Covers. Kenn, Dennis and Ragnar were amazing and they've brought quiet back into my life. They are super friendly and did a great job installing the covers. Will use their services whenever I move to a new apartment.

I live in San Francisco near a noisy corridor and desperately needed a good night's sleep. I found Castle Windows online and asked them to add sound barriers. I am so thankful to Kenn and Dennis for providing customized window treatment with a quality product. These guys are down to earth and very professional. I got a great deal and am very satisfied. Getting a good night's sleep is priceless and something I cherish everyday.
I continue to use their services as needed and always recommend them to neighbors and friends who want to maintain the beautify of their homes while benefiting from less noise.

These did not work in my apartment. I had double paned windows already installed. Before installation of my window covers, the noise in my bedroom was 45-50 dB C on average. After installation of my window covers, the noise in my bedroom is 43-50 dB C on average. These window covers only appear to maybe attenuate some medium to high frequency noise.
They are not affecting overall noise levels. Any rumbling from trucks, etc, does not seem to be reduced at all. I spent over $3,000 for no reason and wish I had gone with more expensive glass window inserts instead. One reason they may not be working is because they are not properly sealed. There are gaps between the inserts and the surrounding frames. When I asked if they could fix this, they told me "no."

We have a lot of very large single-paned windows in our house, and our house was always drafty and our heating bill was out-of-control. It was hard to find a solution other than paying several 10's of thousands of dollars to get all the windows double-paned. I'm so glad I finally found Castle Window Covers. We got basically all the benefits of double-panes windows at a fraction of the price and they look great.
The guys who did the work - Kenn and Dennis - have been amazingly wonderful to work with. They get an A + for communication, pleasantness, dedication and follow-through. We originally hired them about 10 years ago (this review is long overdue), but we've had them back several times for small additional jobs. Every single time they've been awesome.

I bought 6 acrylic window covers, spending $3,000 in November 2017 (getting a small discount for having paid in cash). My main problem was noise entering through two windows in my back-end San Francisco, 2nd floor apartment - the bedroom and kitchen windows. An industrial commercial fan in the air well outside both windows emitted (and still emits) 44 decibels of noise 17 hours a day, 7 days a week, and I wanted to get a good night's sleep as I had had before the fan appeared, which was three years prior, and I did not want to have to hear the incessant hum at night. Earplugs didn't work. $300 noise-cancelling Bose earbuds didn't work. Soundproofing windows an expert told me wouldn't work either.
I was desperate. The guys at Castle Window Covers measured and fitted the covers to fit both bedroom and kitchen windows and they did an excellent job of that, but the sound reduction was obviously and distinctly negligible the very instant the installers finished their work and stood back to listen. I wanted to scream that I now saw I had just wasted my money and that my attempt to soundproof my bedroom was an utter financial loss, but I suppressed the urge to scream, telling myself that maybe in time I'll appreciate better how the covers work to reduce noise.
That time never came. The covers for the bedroom and kitchen windows are relatively worthless for the purpose of significantly reducing 44 decibels of fan noise or for creating an environment quiet enough to induce sleep. They should have admitted their attempt to block or reduce the fan noise was a complete failure and given me my money back on the spot.
To admit failure would have cost them time and materials wasted. Eight months later, I still have to wear earplugs to bed even with the sound covers on and at other times, I have to sleep on the floor in the hallway or in the front room since the fan noise remains too intense, despite every barrier I have erected against it. The SF Department of Health finds the noise level totally acceptable. Castle Window Covers' reps suggested I might find some comfort in purchasing covers for the four windows in the front room of my apartment, a room that is well-lit and which faces the street.
Before the installation, I would sometimes take my mattress into the front room to sleep when the fan got to be too much, but the loud street noises I heard were just as bad as the fan noise in my bedroom, and I was very unhappy about my overall living conditions, which lacked any real right to quiet enjoyment. The window covers the men from Castle Window Covers installed in the front room did appreciably reduce the collective volume of noise produced from the street traffic, police cars, fire engines, construction crews, motorcycles, ambulance sirens, parade buses, drunken pedestrians and the like, and I'm grateful to Castle Window Covers for making the suggestion and following through, even though my main objective was to reduce significantly the fan noise in my bedroom and kitchen. The guys told me they would give me a call to check on me and how I was doing with the sound reduction produced by the covers after the holidays. They never called.

These guys are the absolute best. Great product, clean installation, and our home is much quieter as a result (as tested with a decibel meter as well as my own ears). The draft in the winter was fixed as well as the sound improvement, too. Impressive work all around. Kenn and Dennis are class acts and stand by the product as well. I did notice one not-so-hot review that said he expected 70-90% noise reduction.
As an engineer myself, I will say one thing here- that is basically impossible. For example, if you stand 25 feet from a passenger car going 65 mph, that is 77 dB. If you cut that down by 85%, you are in a library (40 db). So that guy expected the product to make it so standing next to a 65 mph car sounds so quiet you think you are in a library? That's not possible! (unless you replaced the window with a thick soundproof wall!).
So if you expect pin drop silence no matter how much noise is outside your house, nothing can help you other than moving to a remote area, honestly. But for living near noise or in a busy city, this product dramatically does reduce the noise I have found. Feel free to contact me for details if you want - we used the product on 16 windows in total!

I first discovered their soundproofing window covers when I lived in New Orleans. They were a game changer is a city that likes to party 24/7. I've now lived in San Francisco which in the noisy and busy Castro neighborhood. I was happy to rediscover this company and I recently had two rooms treated. It makes an incredible difference on the amount of noise reduced coming in from the streets and sidewalks. I HIGHLY recommend this product and this company!

I'm long overdue for a review. They reduced our house noise from traffic to 1/3. We can sleep in any rooms now. Here were some possibilities: Replace god-knows-how-old windows for 2 rooms with Milgards: 5-8k Add Soundproof sliding windows (but rarely open them to the street anyway): 2k ea, 4k for 2rms. Castle window came less than what it would cost to do one room with one of the cheapest options.
Very short lead time and good communication from the guys over txt. They have mobile workshop and not dependent on other out-of-state supplier. I also appreciated the fact they weren't cocky like the ones have offices in the peninsula. They are not stressed out by the rents and 1m real estate costs, and the benefit comes down to customers with reasonable price for good work.
They schedule the jobs pretty well and good with estimating how long it would take to do a job. (other const. corkers, watch and learn!) Now, can you guys start renovating my house, too?

Living in SOMA is exciting. However, between construction, the transit, and game-day bustle, it's a bit noisy, all hours of the day and night. At times, we could barely sleep. Not any more! Our new magnetite windows have drastically reduced the fracas and hullabaloo. The folks from Castle were polite, honest, and on-time. We can't recommend them enough.

You will not be disappointed! I just had these covers installed on a condo on a very busy street in San Francisco and the internal noise level dropped at least 60% or more. These covers are amazing, and I wish that I had them in college 30 plus years ago. The gentlemen who own and run this company are amazingly professional, reliable, kind, and helpful.
Working with them has been one of the best experiences that I have ever had with a contractor, and I have worked with dozens in building my home and office. These covers are so easy to put on and take off. I quickly removed 2 of them to let air in during the day from one large window, and it was easy and quick. It is interesting that I had bug screens installed on the windows a few days after the install of these noise covers and the bug screen expert was very impressed.
He had not seen them before and he asked me where he could get the Castle Window Covers. He wants to have them installed at his home near San Francisco Airport. He was impressed with the magnets that are used to hold the Castle Covers in place.

I was searching for weeks for a company to install noise reducing window inserts in my are till I found Castle randomly on a Google search. Ken was very professional, always kept me updated on the time he was arriving and provided great customer service. My inserts have been installed and they reduced the terrible traffic noise that would drive me nuts at night.
I can still hear it, but it is now at a tolerable level and I can get sleep. An added bonus these inserts have reduced the draft from the window, which will lower my heating cost. Thank you so much for all your help and great customer service you have provided.

From all of the positive reviews, we really expected better sound proofing results from these window covers. Despite the near perfect customer service from the installation company, the product itself is no miracle worker. If you live near noise, you'll still hear it after these covers are installed. I would say the noise reduction is at best 30-40%, but is nowhere near the 70-90% that other reviewers claim.
There appear to be a lot of screws in the sill so if we ever wanted to remove them, there would be a lot of holes to patch. We really had high hopes for this product and spent a considerable amount of money on them. Unfortunately for us, it was a failure, and we will move forward with plans to move.

We love these window covers. We live in on a very busy street and these covers have made our home incredibly quiet now! Now can sleep without hearing cars and traffic. So glad we found them! Best part is nobody can see them, they are virtually invisible! Love it! Plus Kenn and Dennis are the best! Their customer service is incredible. My wife and I highly recommend them and their products! Thanks again Kenn and Dennis! Great Work.

2 radical results: 1. the draft is gone, 2. Street noise is 95% eliminated. These guys walk their talk. They are professional, reasonably prices, customer service is 10 stars and they are passionate about the solutions they are offering with energy conservation. What's also amazing is that they are likely the best installers of office window blinds. They are precise and perfectionistic.

I live in a 107 year old Victorian condo on one of the busiest streets in San Francisco in terms of cars and pedestrian traffic, with two stoplights on either end of the block and an incline. So, there's a lot of cars, acceleration, braking, motorcycles, and not to mention a fire station three blocks away - so lots of sirens. I have 6 large 67" high bay windows that are original wood and face the street.
I had them restored, sashes, cords, and pulleys repaired - but they still leaked air and were completely thin when it came to sound insulation. The rooms are also adjacent to my bedroom where we have a 5 month old infant. It's illegal to replace original, street visible wood windows with anything other than identical wood, and in some cases makes no sense due to the hearty construction of the original windows: http://www.sf-planning.org/ftp/files/publications_reports/Standards_for_Window_Replacement.pdf However, this doesn't excuse them from being really poor insulators of sound and air. So, I wanted a solution that would allow me to keep the 107 year old windows but solve my sound and air problems.
This seemed impossible until I did some research and found the "Magnetite" offering of window covers. In reading their description online, it seemed like the perfect fit - an unobtrusive steel rail around the interior of the window with an airtight magnet-framed piece of 1/4" acrylic glass snapped on top of it to offer no compromises with visibility or aesthetic but allow for the enhancements I wanted.
I called the national number and Kenn from Castle Window Covers, a local Stockton based company gave me a call back early the next day. Kenn and his business partner came out and performed some meticulous measurements, as well as demoed the window covers to me in a sound box. Kenn was upfront and honest - I shouldn't expect the covers to completely eliminate noise, but they will be airtight and they will block out a large spectrum of frequency and overall lower the volume of noise.
Within two weeks, Kenn and his partner came back and installed the window covers for 6 windows in about 3 hours. They were clean, efficient, and pleasant to have around. It has now been about 5 days since the install and I am very happy with the purchase for the following reasons: - The windows are definitely airtight now - and they also block a large amount of UV in the morning.
These eastern facing windows used to let the sun in and bake my front rooms, now, while it's definitely still warm near the window, the room doesn't achieve the boiling temperatures that it used to. They also keep the temperature more normalized at night - keeping the hot air in and cool air out. - The sound is definitely a huge improvement - while I can definitely still hear road noise it has been reduced to a "mumble." I used to be able to hear car engines idling but that has disappeared, and I don't have to speak over the outsiden oises to hold a conversation.
The sirens still come through pretty loud as they are on the higher end of the frequency spectrum, but it's not as piercing as it used to be. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase. I just removed one of the covers and the sound difference is tremendous. Kenn was a top-notch communicator, very genuine, the price was reasonable (and I did have a bonified quote to replace these windows with double-paned wood-clad, and can say, these were 1/4 the cost and wouldn't have given me the same enhancements.
In all honesty I'd have probably gotten these covers over replacement wood windows.) Another good feature is that these windows are toddler-height with no screens. So these acrylic window covers not only protect my child from breaking the glass with his toys, they also prevent him from falling out!
