They were extremely competitive in their pricing, they were extremely friendly, punctual, and efficient in their presentation, and their work. I found them very professional, and delightful to work with. Their conservatism coincided with the views of our insurance adjuster who didn't believe our roof to be the disaster they said it was.

I had been in the planning stages for a full bathroom and kitchen remodel with CC since March. In April, I went tile shopping with James, who promised me an estimate for the bath the following week. I received it a month later. For the next 2 weeks, I asked to be put on the schedule, regardless of how far out it may be (I understand post-Covid a lot of people are working on their houses). A month later, he emailed me back to say that they didn't think they'd be able to get it done "on my timeline". They wasted 4 months of my time.

We needed installation of interior French doors for a home office. The scope of the project included removal of existing casement/trim, installation of pre-hung French doors, and re-trim. We sought three estimates from local companies and found Consumer Construction most responsive to our needs. Installers were professional and were meticulous in ensuring no related damage to walls or hardwood flooring taking a craftsman approach to their work.

Critical: Professionalism, Responsiveness Scheduled an appointment with this company for a shower installation and vinyl siding repair. Met with the sale technician at the home and viewed the project. Two (2) months later and never heard back from the company with a quote or estimate regarding the project. Non-responsive and unprofessional.

When selling our house the buyers required the satellite dish to be removed by a licensed contractor. I called Ken at CC and he had a guy out the next day removing not one but two (yes we never saw the second one) and didn't charge me an additional price for the second removal. The holes were filled and new shingles were put on. He also removed all the wires associated with the dishes. Ken and his associate were both very professional and courteous to work with. Highly recommend.

Pros: I had Consumer Construction do an entire outside renovation to my home. We obtained quotes from CC as well as other companies like Window World, Lowes, and Home Depot. Though CC as not the cheapest option, coming in about 10% more expensive than their competition, they were the best option for our project. The reasons is CC was able to project manage all of the work and get it done quickly with a high attention to detail.
We purchased a foreclosed home in Ashburn that was never maintained well by the previous tenants. As such we had to replace all the doors, windows, gutters, siding, house wrap, and molding around the property. On top of that we had to tear out the old deck as it had become recently infested with termites and carpenter bees. We replaced the the wood deck with a large stone patio.
For such a large project the lead time was long, about 3 months from payment in July to starting at the end of October. The entire install process took about a month with some days getting missed due to bad weather. The install team was amazing and CC's foreman did an excellent job in running down the punch list and keeping his staff on schedule. We also ran into a lot of issues during the build due to the lack of maintenance the property had.
We had to replace the entire front bay window of our house. The team did an excellent job in getting the front torn down and rebuilt in one day. They then spent an additional couple of days doing the finishing work and trim work. Another major issue was due to the incorrect installation of the deck. Water had gotten between the beams that connected to the house, which caused a lot of rot at the base of the house.
The CC team was able to address all of these concerns which not only improved the longevity of the home, but reduced the musty smell in the home and the number of insects we've seen inside. Speaking to this work after 2 months (Writing this review at the end of January 2019), we are incredibly happy we went with CC. The work has stayed solid through high wind storms and the house is noticably warmer.
Our energy bill cut in half from about $400 a month to just around $200 a month. My only regret is that I did not have them do the work on my kitchen. That said I will be contacting CC later for our master bathroom project we intend to tackle this year. If you can work directly with James, he's a pleasure to work with and delivered a great product.
He can do the sales ordering as well as act as foreman for your project. Request him specifically. Cons: The sales rep (Greg) should provide more accurate timelines. His original estimate for starting the work was 4 weeks from payment. It took 3 months to get all the materials needed for our job. I was ok with that timeline, but it wasn't clearly communicated to us.
We were getting very concerned since CC requires a 50% upfront payment before committing to work. After 2 months we were getting extremely concerned that our money was gone. We had to threaten to request a refund before we were finally escalated to James who took over the project and knocked it out of the park. Additionally make sure that the sales rep orders everything correctly. Greg talked us into getting a French door over a sliding glass door for the basement.
We agreed it would give us more room to bring large items into the house. When he ordered the door he purchased a "double door" which looked correct on the order form. When we got it, only one side of the door would open. He then went on to insult our intelligence saying "Well a French door isn't exactly what you think, this could still be considered a french door".
Consumer Construction was not willing to work with us on this error stating they would not eat the cost of the door (Approximately $3000). They gave us $1000 discount on the door and we moved on, otherwise they didn't want to continue working until the issue was resolved. The door is fine, and it fits our style, but it wasn't what we ordered and we aren't very happy they made us eat the cost of a door we didn't want.

I am reading some of the reviews and honestly, don't understand some of the low ratings. Over a period of about five years, Consumer has done four seperate jobs on my house. Mark Mohay has done every estimate, but one and to be very clear - Mark and company know what they are talking about, won't waste your time, and they will tell you when you don't need something.
I know this is probably converse to every other contractor like this, but please get your quotes from other businesses, I almost promise Consumer's will be the most competitive and honest - with NO upselling. So, Consumer has done my roof - outstanding service and craftmanship - I didn't find a single nail or piece of old roof when they were done.
They have done my gutters, again efficient, timely work - and they worked very well with my budget and overall plan BECAUSE I actually told them what I wanted to, how I wanted to phase the installation, and work around another project. Communication goes both ways folks. Later, they did a rain guard, debris guard for the gutters. Again, outstanding service and project definition - and I was actually talked out of a product because of knowledge Consumer showed me about poor product performance, and false claims by the product maker.
Most recent I had a new front door installed. Again here, Mark walked me through the product and got me what I needed, with no up selling. The product was installed perfectly, and they even addressed a minor flaw in the framing the home builder caused. So bottom line, I don't understand the lower ratings. Consumer is an outstanding small business in PWC, and you will get an outstanding product with durability and quality.

They do excellent work. I have contracted with them now for 3 projects: a small shed replacement roof, a new front door to our house, and the interior finish work for a standalone studio. Each time, the crew that did the work included real craftsmen that paid attention to details and put in the time to get things right. Without exception, the end products were superb.
The reason they do not get 5 stars from me is, as noted by others, customer service. First, the estimator sometimes makes promises the work crew or schedulers cannot keep, or he misses significant factors that only come to light once the work is started - resulting in the final project increasing in cost. Second, once you have given them the down payment you can easily wait weeks up to months before you hear from them again.
You have to call and get them to give you a scheduling update. Last, if a project goes on longer than they expect, they will pull most of the crew off to go work on another project, leaving your project to drag on with maybe one person showing up to eventually finish it.

My review goes to Mark M. Mohay, who is the guy that comes to your house for a free estimate. First, on the date of my appointment that was scheduled for 0400 PM, I was contacted by Mark by phone at 0325 PM to let me know that he would be at my residences earlier, however, he shows up at 0427PM. The presentation and knowledge were on point, however, when you show up at someone house smelling like you just smoke about twenty packs of cigarettes that is not appropriate in my opinion.
Mark tells me that he will send me the estimate by email in the next two days and I got a phone called from him the four days later to verify my email. Now, I have to cancel the project due to my insurance company denying replacing my roof. So, the phone call transpires like this: Mark: Hey, I'm calling to verify your email address. Me:., hey Mark I'm not going to do the renovation due to my insurance company denying my claim. Mark: So, you're not doing this? Me: No Mark: So, you don't need a quote them, good deal and CLICK he hang up the phone while I was talking to him. Mark definitely needs to educate himself on how to talk to customers.
