I have an old home that had old rotted windows. I called around to a few places and I could tell they just wanted to get in, rip out, take my check and get out. I love and care about my old home and want it to look like it's been beautifully maintained for the past century. I found Shawn through a friend of mine. I sent him a few pictures and he gave me a quick assessment of what I needed.
Then he came out and did a more in-depth study of every window. What I loved about him is that he really cared about preserving the originals. He didn't try to talk me into replacing windows that didn't need it. In fact, I had some east-facing windows that I thought needed replacing. He showed me how they were actually in really good condition, and talked me out of replacing them.
He referred me to a guy (Heath Farrell Carpentry) who could repair the sash cords and take care of some minor fixes. Voila! But in the places that were beyond repair he made windows that look EXACTLY like the old ones: They don't look like some new ones slapped in with the old - he even found glass that looked like old poured glass. Make sure you talk to Shawn before you make your decision.
If you're looking for a low-ball price, he's not your guy. But if you want someone trustworthy who does a perfect job the first time, on time he's your guy. PS: MAKE SURE YOU LOOK AT THE UNFILTERED REVIEWS ON YELP.
